From Kyoto to Kolkata:  A First-Hand Review of FUJIFILM X100VI

As a Fujifilm X-Ambassador, I had the privilege of attending the highly anticipated X-Summit in Tokyo this February. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as Fujifilm unveiled its latest masterpiece: the FUJIFILM X100VI. Following the event, I extended my stay in Japan to embark on a photographic journey through the vibrant streets of Tokyo and the tranquil landscapes of Kyoto. Later, I took the X100VI to the bustling streets of my hometown, Kolkata, to truly put this camera through its paces. Here's my first-hand review of this remarkable camera, accompanied by some of the images I captured in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Kolkata.

The first thing that strikes you about the X100VI is its timeless design, reminiscent of classic rangefinder cameras. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, it exudes elegance and durability. The camera feels robust yet lightweight, making it ideal for street photography and travel.

The top and bottom plates are constructed from magnesium alloy, giving it a premium feel and ensuring durability.

One of the standout features of the X100VI is its fixed 23mm F2 lens, which is equivalent to a 35mm lens in full-frame terms. This versatile focal length is perfect for street photography, portraits, and landscapes. The lens is sharp, with minimal distortion and impressive bokeh when shooting at wider apertures. Autofocus performance is fast and accurate, even in challenging lighting conditions, whether shooting late into the night in Tokyo or inside the covered flower market in Kolkata, thanks to the improved phase-detection AF system. Combined with the camera's responsive shutter, which boasts a maximum speed of 1/4000s, it's a joy to shoot fast-paced subjects with confidence.

The compact nature of the X100VI enables photographers to carry it with them at all times, ready to capture spontaneous moments at a moment's notice. Its lightweight construction and ergonomic design make it comfortable to hold for extended periods, ensuring that photographers can remain agile and responsive in dynamic street environments.

As I wandered through the cobblestone streets Kyoto, the camera's silent shutter allowed me to blend seamlessly into the surroundings, capturing glimpses of everyday life with authenticity and grace.
